Shalni

Shalni Doshi is the founder and principal teacher at Simply English. She has been tutoring for the last 15 years. She works mainly with those 10 years-old and above.

An “accidental” teacher, Shalni started her education career as a freelance Speech and Drama, Public Speaking, and Study Skills instructor in MOE primary and secondary schools. A request from her friend to tutor her child put her on the path of teaching. She has never looked back since.

Shalni holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from the University of Nottingham, is a graduate of NUS, and also holds Trinity College Grade 6 qualifications. She specialises in working with Upper Primary and Secondary school students. Besides curriculum, Shalni also works to expose her students to various forms of literature (fiction and non-fiction) to encourage them to love the language.

A mother of two growing boys, Shalni loves spending her free time hanging out at home, volunteering (at food kitchens and her sons’ schools), cooking, and reading. Variety is the spice of life, and Shalni strives to be involved in a range of activities that help her connect not only with children but also with adults.

To Shalni, teaching is a collaborative effort and a two-way street. Teachers learn from their students as much as they teach. With that philosophy in mind, Shalni shares her love for English and Literature with her students. She sees herself as a guide, a mentor, and a friend who aims to get them to where they want to be and what they want to achieve. She was fortunate enough to have teachers who nurtured her, and she is paying it forward by doing the same for her own students.
